The first mine construction of Tbilisi Metro was begun in 1953.The first impacted metropolitan area was exploited in 1996. It consisted of four depots, from the depot "Didube" to the depot "Rustaveli". In 1971 was finished one more depot, named "Samgori". In 1979 was exploited the second impacted metropolitan area connecting Station Square with Saburtalo district. In 1985 was exploited two more metropolitan areas: from depot "Didube" to depot "Guramishvili" and from depot "Samgori" to depot "Varketili". In 1989 was exploited depot "Akhmeteli Theatre".
In 2002 was exploited depot "Gotseridze-Vazha-Pshavela".
The technical equipment of Metro is similar to equipment of the ex-USSR countries.
Tbilisi Metro works from 6.00 am to 12.00 pm.
